June 2014

Dear Friends -

I want to first take a moment to thank every UNICAN, their families and their friends for all of the support shown at Festa Italiana 2014. Your time and effort is sincerely appreciated, and it truly honors me to be a part of such an amazing organization. I would also like to send a special thank you to every member of our Festa Committee who donates important insight, support and execution to the event… not to mention the hundreds of volunteer hours in planning.

With the final numbers still coming together, I am very excited to see the results of the entire weekend. We had the most successful 3 days of Festa Italiana in our history, and our spirit and pride was at an all time high. Though our sponsor support was down in 2014, our overall revenues are still something to be very proud of, and it gives us a great foundation to build for 2015. We will have more detail by our next chapter meeting, so please join us for dinner for more information.

“UNICAN’s who eat together, stay together.” - Frank Cherrito

Though the Festa is over, we still have plenty to keep our organization busy!  Our June meeting is set for the 25th at Johnny C’s, and we strongly encourage everyone to attend. We will be presenting our 2015 slate of officers to the organization for their vote and approval, and we welcome as much participation as able to attend.

“To be a good UNICAN, you have to be a giver, not a taker.” - Phil Balano, Sr.

Our next fund raising event is the Annual Microbrew Festival held at Zona Rosa on Saturday August 16th from 4pm to 9pm.  We will need a limited number of volunteers for this event to help pour, so please let us know if you are available. Pre-sale tickets will be $25 each and can be purchased beginning July 11th at Zona Rosa customer service or eventbrite.

“We all joined UNICO for a reason, what’s yours?!” - Michael Mange

Festa Italiana is still fresh in everyone’s mind, so now is the prime time to recruit that friend or family member you believe would be a great addition to our organization. Please invite them to be your guest at the next meeting and UNICO will cover the cost of their dinner. We are only as strong as our membership, and we are always looking for additional friends and family to support.

As we come to a close of our fiscal year, I need to send out a reminder to everyone that Annual Dues need to be paid for the next year. If you are a new member that joined after 1/1/2014, then nothing is due.  All other members need to submit their $80 back to the chapter. Dues can be paid in one of the following ways:

  • Online at www.unicokc.org you can simply click on the “Pay Dues” button on the top of the page.

  • Bring your payment to the next meeting on June 25th.

  • Mail a check directly to our Treasurer. Checks should be made out to UNICO KC.

In closing, I want to again thank everyone who had the opportunity to spend time with us at Festa Italiana, either as a volunteer or as a patron.  We need both to be successful, and every minute spent at Festa simply makes our event stronger.  We gave away $54,000 in scholarships this year which is a direct result of your support!

Please continue to share our social media information with our friends and family and invite everyone to attend our events so that we can continue to develop and grow as an organization.

Distinti Saluti,

Michael Cucchiara
