Happy St. Patrick’s Day -
As some may be celebrating the birthday of St. Patrick this weekend along with the Irish, take comfort in knowing that this Irish Patron Saint was actually of Italian heritage. St. Patrick’s parents were Romans living in Great Britain… so technically that makes him Italian!! So, if you are out having a drink with an Irishman over the weekend, make them buy you a beer as thanks…
On that note of thanks, I would like to give a sincere thank you to everyone who was able to support the Fish Dinner at St. Andrew’s on the 7th. Weather you volunteered, came to dinner, or just donated a few dollars, all of your help is greatly appreciated. If you were unable to attend, but are still able to support, we again ask that you send in your dona-tion for any tickets mailed out the week prior to the event.

Our next membership meeting will be held at Johnny C’s on Wednesday March 26th. We invite all who can attend to join us for dinner and drinks. I still have Italian American Heritage Calendars from UNICO National, and I will be sure to bring them to pass out to anyone who needs copies to take home or share.
Our April meeting will be at Carlo’s. in Lenexa It is scheduled for the 16th, but could change to the 23rd. I will update if a change occurs.
We are tentatively planning our May dinner for Friday night May 16th at Argosy Casino to include our spouses or significant other. Nothing is confirmed, as we are still in the planning stages, but please pencil this date on your calendar.
To be a good UNICAN, you have to be a giver, not a taker.” - Phil Balano, Sr.
Fr. Ariel Durian is in need of support at the Holy Rosary St. Joseph table on Wednesday March 19th. Please follow up directly with Fr Ariel at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are able to support. Also, due to cost issues, the Holy Rosary Shrimp Dinner previously scheduled for the 28th has been cancelled. Please note if you had volunteered.
Festa Italiana 2014 is scheduled for May 30th, 31st, and June 1st at Zona Rosa. Please highlight these days on your calendars at home and put them in your business calendars. With this event we are always in need of volunteers starting on Thursday all the way thru Sunday night.
Sponsor support is down this year for Festa 2014, so every dollar counts this year. If you know of a company or organization that is willing to support us with a sponsorship, please contact us at your earliest opportunity.
“We all joined UNICO for a reason, what’s yours?!” - Michael Mange
Membership participation and retention is vital for the success of our organization. If you are able to make our next meeting, please reach out to at least one other member and ask them to join you. Mem-bership growth is also important, as the more people we have invested in our organization, the more influence and support we can gain from our community. If you have a friend or family member you be-lieve would be a good addition to the organization, we encourage you to make a phone call and invite them to attend a meeting. Remember, we buy dinner for all of our first time guests, so bring someone new to the next meeting!
We are now past the scholarship deadline for applications from our chapter. However, the deadline for national scholarships is still open.
UNICO National offers a variety of scholarships for high school seniors, undergraduates and post gradu-ate studies, including specialized scholarships based on specific fields of study. There are also various eligibility requirements based on the scholarship applied for, so you would need to review each scholar-ship individually. The UNICO National Scholarship deadline for submissions is April 15th, 2014. We highly encourage any applicants that submit for our KC Chapter Scholarships to also submit for National consideration as well.
Thank you for your continued support of the Kansas City Chapter of UNICO, and I look forward to seeing you at the next meeting.
