October 2013

Dear Friends -

The holidays are fast approaching, and with them, the season of giving. As the President of UNICO, I have the great honor to announce that UNICO will offer assistance in December to support a few families of those less fortunate. This year we again will select 4 families to receive $1,000 each in the form of a $500 grocery card and a $500 gift card. While we understand this is never an end all solution, our only hope is to make Christmas a little brighter. This, of course, would not be possible if it were not for the support of all of our volunteer members and their fund raising efforts.

As in the past several years, we are asking for UNICAN’s to help us identify those families. If you know of someone who may qualify for our support, please submit to me a brief bio of why we should consider this family and any other helpful information by November 25th. First consideration will be given to families of Italian heritage. All submissions will be kept confidential and names will not be shared with the chapter.

“Unican’s who eat together, stay together.” - Frank Cherrito
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our September meeting at Mike & Char-lie’s. We were bursting at the seams, as there were a total of 50 members and guests in attendance, so we had overflow tables into an additional room. I can remember a few of my first meetings as a UNICAN, and if we had more than 15 attendees it was considered a success. It makes me very proud to see how our attendance has grown. Our next monthly membership meeting will be held on Wednesday October 23rd at Carlo’s Copa Room in Lenexa, KS. I hope to see everyone there! Our next planned event with our significant others will be in December for our Christmas Dinner (time and location still TBD). We are looking to take our Christmas Dinner up a notch this year, so please tentatively plan on December 6th or 7th.

“To be a good UNICAN, you have to be a giver, not a taker.” - Phil Balano, Sr.
We are into the slow time of year for our fund raising efforts, so please take this time to enjoy with your family. We have some great activity planned for 2014, and we are going to need volunteers at every event. Please continue to watch and mark your calendars.

“We all joined UNICO for a reason, what’s yours?!” - Michael Mange
Membership participation and retention is vital for the success of our organization. If you are able to make our next meeting, please reach out to at least one other member and ask them to join you. Membership growth is also important, as the more people we have invested in our organization, the more influence and support we can gain from our community. If you have a friend or family member you believe would be a good addition to the organization, we encourage you to make a phone call and invite them to attend a meeting. Remember, we buy dinner for all of our first time guests, so bring someone new to the next meeting!

I am conducting regular updates of our roster. If you find that I have announced a birthday or anniversary date inaccurately, please notify me. Also, if you have changed any personal information such as ad-dress or phone number in the past few months and have not sent that to me, please do so at your earliest opportunity.

In closing, we still have approximately 40 members who have not paid their dues. Our chapter has already paid in forward (to UNICO National) the dues of anyone who has not notified us of their member-ship termination. In short, this is an expense we have not budgeted for, so we sincerely request your prompt attention. If you have not paid your annual dues of $80, please make this a priority. You can now pay dues online with a credit card by going to www.unicokc.org and clicking the “Pay Dues” button at the top of the page or by sending you payment to:

Mike Cucchiara
1307 NE 86th St.
Kansas City, MO 64155
Please make all checks payable to UNICO.

All dues need to be submitted no later than October 25th, 2014. Any member who has not submitted and paid their dues by that date will be removed from our roster and will need to re-apply for membership.

Thank you for your continued support of the Kansas City Chapter of UNICO, and I look forward to seeing you next week.

Distinti Saluti,

Michael Cucchiara
