September 2013

Dear Friends -

Our Fiscal year is complete, and our finance committee has finalized our plan for 2013/2014. We had a very successful year, donating more than $80,000 in 2013. In addition to the over $50,000 in scholarships we awarded at Festa Italiana, we have sup-ported JDRF, Mid-America Games, Sister Servants of Mary, Synergy Services and Boy Scouts of America (just to name a few). Only with your support were these donations possible.

I am very proud to announce that, thanks to your continued support and efforts, we plan to do it all again in 2014! Our fund raising efforts this year have enabled our finance committee to earmark similar donations for the next fiscal year. It is time to congratulate every UNICAN for their time and service. With every hour of service, monetary do-nation to our chapter, or even just attendance at our events, you are making a difference in the life of someone who needs it.

“Unican’s who eat together, stay together.” - Frank Cherrito
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our August meeting at Johnny C’s. This was my first meeting to preside, and I am proud to say I made it through without drop-ping the microphone or spilling a beverage. Our next monthly membership meeting will be held on Wednesday August 25th at Mike & Charlie’s (Harrah’s Casino). You can park valet and Mike and Charlie’s will validate your ticket for free parking. Our next planned event with our significant others will be in December for our Christmas Dinner (time and location still TBD). We are looking to take our Christmas Dinner up a notch this year, so please tentatively plan on December 6th or 7th.

“To be a good UNICAN, you have to be a giver, not a taker.” - Phil Balano, Sr.
We are into the slow time of year for our fund raising efforts, so please take this time to enjoy with your family. We have some great activity planned for 2014, and we are going to need volunteers at every event. Please continue to watch and mark your calendars for pending events. Attendance at monthly meetings is a great way to get additional details on pending activity.

“We all joined UNICO for a reason, what’s yours?!” - Michael Mange
Membership participation and retention is vital for the success of our organization. We want to continue to grow, but we also want to keep those that are already members actively involved. If you are able to make our next meeting, please reach out to at least one other member and ask them to join you. We are only as strong as our membership.

Membership growth is also important, as the more people we have invested in our organization, the more influence and support we can gain from our community. If you have a friend or family member you believe would be a good addition to the organization, we encourage you to make a phone call and invite them to attend a meeting. Remember, we buy dinner for all of our first time guests, so bring someone new to the next meeting!

I am conducting regular updates of our roster. If you find that I have announced a birthday or anniversary date inaccurately, please notify me. Also, if you have changed any personal information such as ad-dress or phone number in the past few months and have not sent that to me, please do so at your earliest opportunity.

In closing, we still have approximately 50 members who have not paid their dues. Our chapter has already paid in forward (to UNICO National) the dues of anyone who has not notified us of their member-ship termination. In short, this is an expense we have not budgeted for, so we sincerely request your prompt attention. If you have not paid your annual dues of $80, please make this a priority. You can now pay dues online with a credit card by going to and clicking the “Pay Dues” button at the top of the page or by sending you payment to:

Mike Cucchiara
1307 NE 86th St.
Kansas City, MO 64155
Please make all checks payable to UNICO.

Thank you for your continued support of the Kansas City Chapter of UNICO, and I look forward to seeing you next week.

Distinti Saluti,

Michael Cucchiara
